Do you need a permit for a porta potty in unincorporated Harris County?

A porta potty on private property in unincorporated Harris County usually needs no permit of its own. A public event with 100 or more people outdoors needs a Harris County Fire Marshal special event permit, filed 30 days ahead, or 90 days ahead if the event affects public roads.

A large share of Harris County residents live outside any city limits, in places like Channelview, Crosby, Highlands and Aldine. Those areas have no city hall, so county offices handle the rules.

Apply for event permits through the Harris County Fire Marshal special events page. For right-of-way questions, the Harris County Office of the County Engineer permits office is at 1111 Fannin St., (713) 274-3900.

Texas also has a state law for very large events outside city limits. Health and Safety Code Chapter 751 covers gatherings of more than 2,500 people, or more than 500 if most are under 21 and alcohol is expected. The event must last over 5 hours or run between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Inside Pasadena, Houston or another city, use that city's permit office instead.

What Harris County conditions change how we place and service units?

Harris County's clay "gumbo" soil, about 55 inches of rain a year and a June 1–November 30 hurricane season all affect placement. Pasadena Porta Potty Rentals sets units on firm, high ground, adds service in summer heat and moves or straps units before named storms.

Wet gumbo clay turns soft fast after a storm. A loaded truck can sink in a soggy yard, so we may set the unit closer to the driveway after heavy rain. Low spots near bayous and ditches flood first; we avoid them.

The Houston Ship Channel runs through the county. Refinery and chemical plant turnarounds near Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte and Baytown can need dozens of units plus hand wash stations. See our industrial portable restroom page for plant work.

Big crowds gather at NRG Park, the Pasadena Fairgrounds in 77507 and bayfront parks. Summer heat fills tanks faster on long events. Our hurricane season guide explains storm prep.

Harris County porta potty questions

These are the Harris County questions callers ask us most, written the way people ask them. They cover unincorporated areas, same-day timing, plant work and storms. For anything not listed, call Pasadena Porta Potty Rentals Monday–Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and a local person will answer.

I live in unincorporated Harris County. Who do I call about rules?

For a unit on your own property, you usually do not need anyone's approval. For public events of 100+ people, call the Harris County Fire Marshal. For anything touching a county road, call the county permit office at (713) 274-3900.

Can you get a porta john to north Houston or Aldine today?

Maybe. Our same-day zone is strongest on the east and south sides. North Harris County is farther from our Pasadena yard, so call by noon and we will check that day's trucks.

Do you handle refinery turnarounds near the Ship Channel?

Yes. We deliver multiple units and hand wash stations to plant sites in Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte and Baytown. We can add service visits 2 times a week for large crews.

What happens to my unit if a hurricane is coming?

Call us when a storm is named. We can strap the unit, move it to safer ground or pick it up early. Billing stops the day you request pickup.

My yard is soggy after rain. Can you still drop off the unit?

Usually, yes. If the ground is too soft for the truck, the driver will set the unit on firm ground nearby, like the driveway edge. The unit needs a level spot within about 15 feet of where the truck parks.

Does Channelview count as Houston for permits?

No. Channelview is unincorporated, so Harris County rules apply there, not City of Houston rules. Check our Channelview page for local details.
